“For what shall it profit a man {woman and youth} if they gain the whole world, and lose their own soul, or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul.”

I. “Peace, Peace, when there is no peace.”
Today in traveling through Abilene, we stopped at Walmart and a real nice and friendly Walmart lady, and a Baptist typical of most church members told a very sad story about the condition of our election and nation, related what her pastor of a very large church in Abilene said last Sunday, typical of what was said in the days of Jeremiah before the great destruction and seemingly so typical of our nation today.
The effort to eliminate the famous stressing over this election, which the media often speaks of, he said whether you vote democratic or republican it does not matter because God is in control no matter what. That is so sad, because it implies that we as a nation and a citizen do not have any responsibility for what happens in the nation. It reminds one of Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia and Algeria where anything that happens, and no matter what happens, it is INSHALLAH. It means in the Muslim mind “Allah’s will {who they think is god} will be done; and let me translate that for you as one who has lived and worked there: (!) It means that if you get on an either overloaded or inadequate elevator and has a questionable behavior and capability, it is INSHALLAH, or don’t worry whether you get there and don’t make it, “god’s will will be done”: or (2) It also means that if you kid or child falls in the public well out in front without a child protection rail, “it is INSHALLAH.” In other words it is not your responsibility to ether put a rail around the well to protect little children, or your responsibility to demand or use a safe elevator. You recognize the same way of cloudy logic in America with the famous song, “Whatever will be, will be”, or the common saying “It is what it is.”
We are responsible to God for the manner to which we vote even as we are personally responsible to God for every single thing we say or do.
II. National Sin versus National Righteousness.
Our nation is responsible collectively as to whether it will follow national sin or national righteousness; and sometimes it is beyond common understanding that truth itself includes morality and righteousness.

III. “And they comfort my people only a little.”
That pastor of a large Baptist church in Indian, typical unfortunately of most pastors in these days of the Falling Away had a noble goal of comfort for his people to prevent stress, but in the eyes of God then and now it was only A LITTLE COMFORT. People do need to stress over the future until they take care of the security and maintenance of their souls.
In the days and nation of Jeremiah, all the priests and prophets, and in fact people were saying “Peace, Peace, when there is no peace.” In other words God had already told them in the famous Temple Message of Jeremiah 7 that there was no peace because basically they were lying to themselves and indeed unless major changes in morality and righteousness were made, they would have the opposite of peace: they would have calamity and destruction.
IV. Stick your head in the figurative sand of eating, drinking, marrying, and giving in marriage.
What is it that is said, “stick your head in the sand when there is any danger to your comfort and welfare”; and it could be said, which is common now among Americans this great Apostasy called to Falling Away, “stick your head in your normal routine best describe in the warning of the second coming of Christ as “they will be eating, drinking, marrying, and giving in marriage” until destruction comes suddenly at the Second Coming. {Remember the Second Coming is tragedy and destruction for most people, and only a glorious experience for a few.

VI. Not only are Americans heads stuck in the routines of making a living and a life apart from the major of the soul welfare, but they also have their heads stuck in themselves.
Increasingly, but not at all limited to the boomer and “me, me” generation is everything on self rather than Christ. Each and every.individual on this earth must get their head out of themselves and get it IN CHRIST.
VII. Even as preventive maintenance is better than corrective maintenance, so is a constant maintenance for the soul according tot he will and way of God better than a panic realization that there is no longer going to be any peace in the land. It is only a futile dream for this world and this nation.
VIII. More rehab, more socialization or globalization, or even more moral majority alone without regeneration will not do it.
The only cure for this ME-Me generation is as it has always been for every generation, OUT OF SELF AND INTO CHRIST, OR AS THE BIBLE PUTS IT DIE TO SELF AND LIVE FOR CHRIST. That will change all our bad habits in the sight of God; that will change all our rationalizations for all the good we think we are; that only will correct our opinions of how right we are; that along can correct our morality and righteousness in the sight of God.
IX. The Evil Heart of Unbelief.
Most people just have no concept of what real evil is in the heart of God. By far the greatest evil heart in the sight of God, in fact, the only one that will kill the soul, is the evil heart of unbelief.
Hebrews 3:11-19
So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)  Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.  But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
