A Public Service Announcement: Beware of wine and strong drink as found in the Bible-
“Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.” (Proverbs 20:1)

1. Wine and strong drink has made millions foolish since God through Solomon wrote this Proverb; and as Upton Sinclair the author of “Blackboard Jungle” and “Cup of Fury” warns of what happened to many of his famous friends like Jack London, Earnest Hemmingway, and Sinclair Lewis started out and determined to remain as “social drinkers” only; however wine mocked them and strong drink raged against them to cause directly as a result of alcohol their shortened and ruined lives.

2. It takes a lifetime of many years to do it, but alcohol can make drunkards and you know the fate of habitual drunkards from the Bible in I Corinthians 6:10,11

“Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in thename of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

3. It makes fools out of us, destroying our reputation, judgment and hard work gains.
“It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.” (Proverbs 31:4-8)
4. Alcohol peverts senses, conscience, and enhance otherwise not tolerated personal behavior, sometimes unawares.
“Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!” (Isaiah 5:11)

NOTE: Coffee and tea and even cold drinks are much better.

5. 3 WOEs from the Bible about how Alcohol distorts the normal sense of values subtly and almost unknown to the practitioner.

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!
Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink: Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!” (Proverbs 5:20-23)

6. John the Baptist provided a good example on how to handle wine and strong drink, prompting “greatness” in the sight of God and the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus said “Among men there is none greater than John the Baptist”.

“For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.” (Luke 1:15)
