Light and Righteousness separate the children of God from the children of the world, continued from the first in the series of TOTAL INTEGRATION IN CHRIST OF EPHESIANS. In other words a thorough getting into Christ and into the book of Ephesians to integrate life, character, personality, purpose and so on.
“John’s Witness: The True Light
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.”
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own,[c] and His own[d] did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:6-13)
Jesus did and does give light “to every man coming into the world”, some in families do not accept that, and this separates the children of God from the children of the world. You see above those members of families that have “the right to become children of God”, surely that is clear, “those who believe in His name”; and cautions on false ways to feign being a child of God such as (1) blood and family genetics; and (2) willing it so out of a strong but rebellious will that goes about to establish their own morality, rightness, and ethics and goodness.
Much can be said about how and why most of the world does not “RECEIVE HIM”, the Lord Jesus Christ, right now the discussion is centered about LIGHT and RIGHTEOUSNESS—
The Apostle John and the Spirit strive to tell us about that light in John 1—
“The Eternal Word
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” (John 1:1-5)
Here is a good start on understand how some family members may look the same and have the same cultural influences but are different: (1) this light of Jesus is the character and Person of God from the very beginning; (2) God created LIGHT through Jesus; and (3) Life is in His very Person and that “life was the light of men”; (4) some children of the world just do not get it as “the light shines in darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it”. Each person is exposed to this light, but has the right to receive the light or reject it, and most family members do not.
- Now for RIGHTEOUSNESS as a character and personality characteristic that separates the children of light from the children of darkness in families. Paul stated it for his own brethren in Israel, and it is even more true of the more numerous Gentile children.
“Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.” (Romans 10:1-4)
Children of this world in families have millions of ways to reject the light and chose darkness, a million ways to go about daily to “establish their own righteousness”, rightness, morality, ethics are whatever you want to call it; and yet fail to submit to the righteousness of God through faith and by faith. It must be added since you know all family members look the same, most nice and seemingly “authentic”, that this righteousness if legal and declared as one believes in Christ, but also a germ of character, inward spirit, is created in them called the new birth and yearly begins to distinguish them as a child of God, it is inevitable. Blood can not stop it, darkness can not stop it, the determination or will of the flesh can not stop it, and any will of man no matter how strong or perceived to be strong can not stop it.
Since this is the second in the series of TOTAL INTEGRATION IN CHRIST OF EPHESIANS, and we are not yet deep enough into Ephesians unless you research the last 3 references, and here is one more for deeper study on Ephesians, and Colossians which is almost the same—
