Takeoff With Romans.

Chapter 1:  Takeoff on Romans With a Pre-Brief.

for slicing

Romans is not easy even for the Bible major in seminary, so for an initial outline the most adventurous method is chosen of a Flight Plan based on Romans.

Pre-Brief:  A Quick Summary of Flight Based on the 9 Navigation Aids of column 4.

  1. Romans 1:25. “Who changed the truth of God into a lie and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.”

This is also what Dr. Peter Jones refers to as a description of the paganism that is taking over Theology and Bible studies, but that is for later since right now we are just trying to get a quick flight out of Romans.

the slice 1

NOTES for Waypoint A:  Location is Home Base, Aid to Navigate is Romans 1:25; description of the aid is “All have sinned”; and Guidance Chart is the Romans 1-3 Sectional)

  1. First of all, look at the respect the Apostle Paul had for God the Creator. Developing his logical reasoning, you know Paul before conversion was a Jewish lawyer which meant civil law was also religious law, Paul while he is jumping into his logical flow of paganism, the natural condition of man and women, which of course according to Romans 1:25 is all knew and know the truth of God from truth, conscience, and instruction; but reject that truth and the rebellion is so strong and great, that the truth of God is by creative men and Satan made into a life.  Yet while in half the sentence Paul makes that point, he has mentioned the great name of the great God of the Universe, so he must out of respect for this Great Maker and Saviour, say “who is blessed forever” then put an Amen on it.

Another aspect of paganism, Gnosticism, and outright atheism of the Jesus Seminary is to lie about the Transcendence of God, some wanted to make God our Heavenly Father the same as nature, like to man, four footed beasts, birds, and creeping things.  As smart as most Indians are, it was read the other day that an isolated group worship rats of all things.  Be assured it is not only those scholars of Gnosticism, philosophy, and theology that have given over of themselves to pagans, witches are growing in number in Ireland, Scotland, and the US.  Paganism has become almost an official religion.

A pause here after initial takeoff on Romans here in order to consider some transcendence of God our Heavenly Father in Jude 24,25.  As you know, the Apostle Jude, half-brother of Jesus, has while contending for the faith once for all delivered to the saints, and forced into rather that the subject of salvation that he wanted to cover (like Romans, it is the subject of salvation), he had to describe in only a few verses, no chapters in Jude, the condition in the church of only a few years as:  ungodly men that creep inside the church itself that denied the only God and our Lord Jesus Christ; some in the church that emulated the falling away of the children of Israel in the wilderness because of unbelief; filthy dreamers that define the flesh; despise the dominion of God; speak evil of dignities, evil things that they do not understand; what they know as the brute beasts of paganism they use to corrupt themselves; they have gone the way of Cain that killed his brother Abel; like a Prophet of God, they have become Balaam’s that work for reward, no doubt the origin of what has dominated church leadership today of the Gospel of Prosperity and Success at all cost; like Korah they are rebelling against the real leadership from God, especially that of the Apostles and Prophets..

“These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.” (Jude 12,13)

NOTE:  Did you get all that condemnation of these false teachers and false prophets, the kinds on TV that we have come to accept so naturally in the church; and why, because they perverted, distorted, neglected, and added to or subtracted like Scofield mites from the faith once for all delivered to the saints in the Bible we have.

But the point is, one all that slop is considered that Jude had a benediction that recovered magnificently from all that despair with both encouragement for believers in Christ, but also in honoring respectfully with comfort and enthusiasm the transcendence of God our Heavenly Father.

“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.”

These words speak of the Transcendence of God our Heavenly Father:  Wise, Saviour, Glory, Majesty, Dominion, Power, Now, and Forever.

That is verse 25, 24 speaks to our assurance that even as members of the same body do not have to be like them, we need not FALL (a clear teaching of the falling away and what some in the church have to do in the great apostasy called the falling away previously listed), this transcendent God is ABLE, able to keep us from falling and able to deliver us faultless before the Presence of God who is our Savior.  Amen and Amen.

  1. Each generation of Man once at the age of accountability and predisposed to rebellion and unbelief by a sinful human nature, repeats individually what civilizations did in history over a period of thousands of years. Many still do not get it, there are two worlds in the Bible, the one God originally created and that provides us so much beauty and comfort, and the one sinful man under the leadership of Satan, the prince of the power of the air.

  1. Romans 2:11. “For there is no respect of persons with God. For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;  (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.” (Romans 2:11-15)

NOTES for Waypoint B:  first waypoint after takeoff and we have come all the way from Romans 1 to 2, that is to Romans 2:11 shown above where God is democratic in that there are no respecter of persons with Him; we have quickly passed from the area on the sectional of Romans 1-3 into Romans 2:6-10 which serves to chart a course that God does not discriminated between the religious or the non-religious pagans and homosexuals.

  1. Much like the law of gravity and Newton’s 3 laws of motion in the physical world of the human body, in the spiritual world of the soul God made at the same time as the body is a Law for the Soul.
  2. That law of the soul is written in the heart or conscience of every man and society, so that it is natural for man to accuse and excuse according to that built in conscience; and it is that excusing and accusing of societies and individuals that bespeaks of that internal and inherent Law of the Soul.
  3. That Law of God is based on His character, implanted in man’s soul with the image of God, reminding man automatically of accountability to the God/Creator.
  4. God is not a respecter of Persons—male or female, religious or non-religious, Jew or Gentiles or Greek, heathen or not heathen, and those with the written Law of the Bible or the unwritten law of the soul.
  5. Doers of the Law {written or unwritten} are justified by God, not the religious hearers of the law alone.

  1. Romans 5:1. “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…”

Now, we are flying, all the way to a waypoint in chapter 5.

NOTES  Waypoint C1:  and what a flight it has been all the way from the darkness of man’s sin to the great light of God called JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH.

  1. Justification by faith is independent of any works or not works of the law, and through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  2. Jesus in His death on the cross, called the Atonement, made peace between God and Man, thus providing an inward peace for men who recognized that all at that moment was right between him and the God/Father/Creator.

slice c2

  1. Romans 6:4. “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

NOTES C2:  a short waypoint from chapter 5 to 6 of Romans even as it is immediate between justification and being raised up in newness of life.  You get this reference to the One Baptism describing the One salvation, and know the short hop is 9 months.

  1. What most call “salvation” in the Bible is the “one baptism” of self being crucified with and IN Christ; then not I but Christ living in the Me/Self of the heart and soul which is the resurrection part that man is allowed to duplicate like Christ.
  2. This resurrection of the One Baptism of Salvation is what the Bible calls living or walking or a lifestyle of “newness of life”.

slice c3

  1. Romans 6:23. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

NOTES C3;  Once we have gained this altitude we keep straight and level to go from Romans 6:4 to 6:23, and we are getting into Romans deep maybe like with a little rain.  It is getting serious as we are more than half way and at the point of no return on fuel.  We perk up as we consider our passage from death into life, pretty good huh, for a short flight through Romans, and are you holding up so far with your seat belt fastened.

  1. None of all this flight, or theology or Bible makes sense without considering the original penalty in the Garden God placed on man and woman that sin inevitable after a lifetime will lead to death; that the curse on man was also a curse on the total creation, another reason the world we live in is not the world God originally made, and men of so much wisdom still do not get it, it is to this different world we owe so much sadness, sickness, earthquakes and other calamities; and that “if in this world we have hope only we are of all men most miserable” (I Corinthians 15:19)
  2. God provided at that very moment after first sin a plan for Eternal Life through the promised Atonement, Jesus dying on the cross for the sins of the world.
  3. That plan of salvation is a gift least any man or religious group should boast.

  1. Romans 8:1. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.  For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:  That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the  Spirit.”  (Romans 8:1-4)

NOTES D1:  Hoping that you are experiencing this as we go along.  We are now at the last VOR waypoint, just before landing on the runway of our home airport.

  1. IN CHRIST there is no condemnation of Men and their offences.
  2. Those IN CHRIST must walk and live with a life style of not flesh but Spirit. {Of course, this Spirit is the Holy Spirit or the Spirit of Christ inside.}
  3. You see after the law of gravity, Newtons 3 laws of motion, and the Law of the inward character of God, comes another fourth LAW, “the law of the Spirit of life IN CHRIST Jesus”.
  4. The Law of the Spirit of Life In Christ liberates one from the law of sin and death as established in the Garden of Eden. {Yes, does it surprise you that all these laws just like gravity and Newtons came from the Creator God.}
  5. The law of sin and death was weak through the frailties of human flesh, but the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ is able to fulfill the righteousness of God, declared and achieved.

d2

  1. Romans 8:18. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.  The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:  And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.  For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.  For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.  For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.  And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.”  (Romans 8:14-23)

NOTES on D2:  there is just no better way to explain it in contemporary American English than in the original words of Romans 8:14-23 in the King’s English of 1611.  {Much, much greater than Shakespeare who some think served under King James to be a part of the translating committee.} Landed, back on the ground now, safe and sound from all alarm, all we have to do is live the Christian life and praise the God of Jude 25 and 24.

  1. Romans 8:39. {More than Conquerors!} “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  (Romans 8:37-39)

Waypoint D3, back home to live our life IN CHRIST for our short-allotted times, and Romans 9-16 is about that life and living on earth for the glory of God in the Christian calling.

  1. Retirement from this earth and life on the new earth with a host of new creatures in Christ and with God the Father Himself dwelling on earth and at the New Jerusalem among me.  Where it all makes sense?  No death, no sorrow, no sin, no rebellion against God and the laws of God.  The whole creation—man, and animals, and plants, and earth—that groaned since those thousands of years since the Garden is now completed as God originally intended.
