A Few Lies of Scofield
Plain evidence condemning C.I. Scofield
(1843-1921) as a liar in spreading one of
the most damnable systems of prophetic
misinterpretation ever foisted on the saints.

“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.”
Proverbs 30:5-6
“Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.”
Titus 1:14
Scofield’s Other Sins Against God
- He put his own name on God’s inspired scriptures and sold it as his Bible and necessary for learning.
- He added his words to the words of God with little or no distinction between them (Rev 22:18).
- He added center-column statements that certain verses of the Bible should be deleted and notes
casting doubt on other verses – see Acts 8:37 and Mark 16:9, respectively (Rev 22:19; Gen 3:1). - He took a Bible without a copyright, added his words, and sold it as a copyrighted book (Titus 1:11).
- His New Scofield Reference Bible (1967) included absurd and unwarranted alterations to the KJV
text like the insertion of an ellipsis in I Samuel 13:1 and question marks in Romans 8:33-34.

A Short Statement of Faith by the Church of Greenville
Baptist
We are Baptists, like John the Baptist, our Lord, His apostles, and many martyrs. We only baptize believers and only by immersion to show a picture of our Lord’s burial and resurrection. We reject all infant sprinklings as abominations of the false church in Rome. (Matt 3:13-17; Mark 16:16; John 3:23; Romans 6:3-5; I Peter 3:21).
Predestinarian
We believe God chose to save some of rebellious mankind before the world began for the praise of His glorious grace and to leave the rest under condemnation for the praise of His wrath and power. Jesus died only for the elect, and the Spirit regenerates only them. The pure gospel is good news only for elect and regenerate hearers. (John 6:37-39; Rom 8:29-39; 9:10-24; Eph 1:3-12; II Tim 1:9-10).
KJV Bible
We are Bible Christians. Without Scripture, we cannot know Jesus Christ. God inspired and preserved His words perfectly. Each is vital to truth. Satan attacked God’s words in Eden, and he attacks them today with many false versions and proud skeptical attitudes. (Psalm 12:6-7; 119:128; Pr 8:8-9; II Tim 3:16-17; II Pet 1:16-21).
Simple Services
We want our assemblies to copy the apostolic churches. We find no evidence for Sunday Schools, pianos, statues, flags, plays, or other inventions. We stress Bible reading and preaching, prayer, spiritual singing, thanksgiving, the Lord’s Supper, and fellowship. (Acts 2:42-47; Eph 5:18-21; I Cor 11:1-2; II Tim 4:1-4; Heb 10:23-25).
Plain Preaching
We believe God sent ministers to preach the word to perfect His saints. Most Christians want entertainment today, but we exalt detailed teaching of God’s word. We believe every word of God, and we want to hear it taught boldly on every subject it touches. (Neh 8:1-12; I Cor 2:1-5; I Timothy 4:13-15; II Tim 3:16-17; 4:1-4).
Holy Living
We believe God’s true children will live holy lives. God is holy, and He wants us holy. True Christians do not befriend the world, will not conform their standards to the world, and will defy and overcome the world. We teach, expect, and enforce godly living. (Romans 12:1-2; II Cor 7:1; James 4:4; I Pet 2:11; I John 2:15-17)
