Preface:  Sorting Out That Sort of Christian Fables.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”  (II Timothy 4:3,4)

If you have watched from Australia and on Prime Video the “McLeod’s Daughters”, you know the Aussies like to use the phrase, “sort it out” as in You have to sort it out or I am going to sort it out, which means in our American lingo we have a problem to solve, or in progressive business environments, we have an issue to deal with.  Well, the Church, especially in America, and in particular the Southern Baptist Convention that has allowed leaders of Scofield theology to take and retain control right up to the current President of the SBC, MUST IN THE NATURE OF CONTEND FOR THE FAITH ONCE FOR ALL DELIVERED TO THE SAINTS, sort out this sort of the Christian Fables of II Timothy.  Go, that is, no farther or less than the Word of God in II Timothy.

Contemporary Preachers and Pastors are smarter than past generations of their counterparts in that they have learned, no doubt in theological training, to select get along with their congregation by selective pick and choose preaching of the Bible, allowing them to rise to the power of mega-churches and grow churches based on numbers.  This also provides them and their families financial security along with being able to save their future retirement in the Relief and Annuity Board of for example the SBC.  Many of this sort have been able also to become popular, go on TV and sell books, and become millionaires as has done Dr. Jeffress of the FBC of Dallas, who has an estimated worth of 7 million dollars.  Dr. Charles Stanley who yearly read through the book “How to grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, a mystic, using it as a manual for both personal growth and church growth, has also become a millionaire with TV and his books in spite of the fact that his church has restricted his ministry except to preaching because of his divorce.  These men like Adrian Rogers of the TV program “Love worth Finding” have managed to remain popular and build (not grow) large churches of “filling a church with empty people” as Gaines Dobbins predicted, with good PR cover ups that Love Worth Finding in spite of his program for the SBC of “conservative resurgence”, falsely so called with also effective PR, has based on Scofield theology killed the love, spirit, and evangelism of the SBC.  Charles Stanley, one of the conspirators along with Rogers, and Criswell, Judge Pressler, and Paige Patterson of the 10 year plan to take control of the SBC, which they did in about 1980-1990, has a similar disguise with his TV program “In Touch”, in spirt of getting out of touch with the faith once for all delivered to the saints with a priority for Scofield theology.  You have to give them an A plus for popularity, success and wealth, professionalism, and theology; yet they are the very sort as will be proven in the pages of this book.

“Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.  Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly-dividing the word of truth.   {NOTE:  Perhaps we stop our focus on the “Study” instead of the “workman” and accuracy and quality control on the Bible!}  But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.  And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past  already; and overthrow the faith of some.
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.  But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.  If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.”  (II Timothy 2:14-21)

NOTE:  This is your first clue in II Timothy on how you can sort out the preachers of that sort, the ones that preach a secret rapture like Hymenaeus and Philetus, like Scofield and Scofield theology, and like the Tim Lahaye fiction books and TV movie of “Left Behind”.  In a most recent cover up attempt by these same Southern Baptist leaders to retain control for Scofield theology is their placing of a new President in the SBC that both pastors a mega-church and who believers in the false secret rapture to the full extent that he claims the actor in that series as one of his heroes.

In the context of II Timothy 2:15 about faithfully and consistently delivering the Bible, the word of truth, without distortions, prejudices, and self-serving, are some clues to preachers and organizations that need to be more right on their Bible.

Chapter 1:   A “That Sort” Outline of II Timothy.

Hopefully from SunGrist_Bible on or with the books on, you have seen previous outlines of II Timothy, especially in the “Life and Letters of Paul”, volume 3 of the LCC commentaries.  This outline is somewhat different with a startling focus on “that sort” while still consistent with the obvious content of II Timothy on sound doctrine for the ministry and for the church.  If you are not careful, you can read II Timothy many times, as I did, and miss the emphasis on “that sort” of church member and “that sort” of church leader.
