It has been calculated that there are 719 verses quoted in the NT from the Old, and 889 if you include references to the Old Testament called allusions. A large number of those quotes come from the 12 Minor Prophets, only called minor because they are smaller than the 4 Major Prophets, and some of the most famous like Joel 2:28-30 as quote by the Apostle Peter on the first day of Pentecost after the Ascension, not only identifies the beginning of the last days as on that very day, but also gives a terse summary of spiritual history from then to the END.
The Day of the Lord in Joel 2:28-32
28 “And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.
29 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days.
30 I will show wonders in the heavens
and on the earth,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
31 The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
32 And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved;
for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem
there will be deliverance,
as the Lord has said,
even among the survivors
whom the Lord calls.”
And listen to carefully how Peter identifies that very day as the beginning of the last days as he explains the meaning of what seems drunker behavior on the part of the 5,000 Jews from all over the world that were in attendance at the Day of Pentecost feast.
But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh…” (Acts 2:14-17)
With this book, GOSPEL IN THE MINOR PROPHETS, you can develop understanding and gain appreciation of the Gospel in the OT, and the method of outlines on the Bible based on the OT quotes in the NT; also the convenience God the Holy Spirit has provided that with each quote in the NT, the proper interpretation of said quote and the explanation and implementation are given. That is what Peter means when he writes “there is no private interpretation”, God has given the proper interpretation with the quotes.https://transactions.sendowl.com/assets/sendowl.js
