The New Man or Woman Properly Learned Christ

17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”  (Ephesians 4:17-24)

Why are the 8 Bible commentaries (studies) of the Learn Christ Commentaries called the Learn Christ Commentaries?  You can appreciate that by reading Ephesians 4:17-24 above.  Paul preached and taught at Ephesus more than anywhere in his missionary journeys, about 2 years, and yet in only a few more years he was forced to tell them, “THIS IS NOT THE WAY YOU LEARNED CHRIST.”  Because not only of what he well knew of the worldly culture and environment at Ephesus, but the reports he received from fellow laborers like Timothy in the faith.  It is a sad description of that culture which we can recognize also in our own culture and immediate environment, alias our friends, associates, and contacts.  It is also sad, but a reality of all time going back from Ephesus and the Roman first century world until now, that the majority of the world has not Learned Christ, neither have they tried.  Not that the world has not heard about the Lord Jesus Christ, for few if any in the world have not had the some seed of the Word of God about Jesus planted in their heart and mind; however as Jesus explained in the parable of the seed and the sower about such seed planted in the minds and hearts of the world, MOST of it either does not bear the fruitful results of proper Learning of Christ, but at the instant of an alleged salvation Satan snatches it out of their heart and mind, or as Jesus said in the parable one fourth of the time “the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke it out”.

Such a lifestyle while holding onto instant salvation without fruit, a lifestyle of cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches is described in Ephesians 4:17-19 above, the walk or life style of the other Gentiles.  That is us, other Gentiles, unless you are a Jew; and if you are the Jews are worse off now, as far as learning Christ, than they were in the first century with a revival of believing in Christ took place, during and after the first day of Pentecost after the Ascension of Christ.  Goodness, in that one day, the Jews of the dispersion visiting there in Jerusalem for Pentecost, 5,000 Jews became Christian Jews.  We look at the world today, and as far as we know and can see, while we know and hear sometimes of Jews becoming Christians or respecting the total Bible of OT and NT, we do not see much more.  You can observe any day from the Tel Aviv Hilton the masses of Israelis flooded the beaches without any respect for observing the sabbath day.  Now, let us be careful as there always have been some Christian Jews for which we are grateful, like Hyman Appleman who was preached at Queensboro Baptist Church in Shreveport when at the age of 9 I made my profession of faith.  (A few of you may remember that Ira Peak was pastor.)

You can almost appreciate the fable observance of Scofield disciples denying that the church is one body of Jews and Gentiles because while it could be seen in the first century, we do not observe it much now; and we fail to adequately appreciate that God in His Word has definitely in no uncertainly terms told us that “blindness in part has happened to Israel (the Jews) until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in”.  Any day now we can expect that changeover and it takes faith in the Word to believe it, that as the seed of the word has gotten to all peoples and nations of the world of Gentiles, then the trend of Jewish blindness will be removed and there will be more that Learn Christ.

It also must be stated that according to Zechariah 13 as the terrorist world comes against Megiddo and the rest of Israel, half of Jerusalem that believes in Jesus will be saved, not the lie that Scofield followers support that all the nation of Israel will suddenly be saved before the world termination.  This fable comes from a failure to realize what Paul has been laboring to say in Romans when stated that “All Israel shall be saved.”  He has laboriously in his lawyer like understand defined according to Christ and God the Spirit’s instructions a new spiritual Israel of Jews and Gentiles, and that is the All Israel that will be saved.

It would seem that now we are seeing A BLINDNESS OF THE Gentiles that includes many who claim a salvation they do not possess, sort of like Paul described in II Timothy, “having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof”.  In other words a professed salvation without inward revival and change, or one which close to salvation time had the seed of the word of faith snatched away from them, because the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choked it out.
