PTB45: Get Real and Get Relevant in Your Personal/Church Bible Study on the book of Revelation.

NOTE:  After reading this, you may want to change the way your church teaches on the book of Revelation to not take on your head the same curses of the Bible for adding too much and for another gospel, which is not the same kind as the gospel of the kingdom preached by Jesus.

After sixty-five years of ordained ministry and studying and teaching the Scriptures around the world, I am convinced that C. I. Scofield was taken in by an immense deception that he unwittingly believed and included in his Bible notes to the detriment of all who believe in them.

If the Church is to be built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Jesus Christ the Chief Cornerstone, then the presumptions and errors of the Scofield Reference Bible must be exposed. We are not his judge. But concerning the Scriptures, we are compelled to judge, 1 Th 5:21. We are publishing this booklet that others might be able to know the facts as we have found them to be.

Charles Gilbert Weston.

You can read his booklet complete online at .

The greatest heresy of the Scofield notes were made clear, but the SBC controlled by the DTS, both ignored and covered up these mistakes.  By far  the leading falsehood of Scofield and his followers of the DTS and in the SBC, is to have the audacity to say that Jesus made a mistake when He came “preaching the gospel of the kingdom”, and their evidence is that the Pharisees rejected his message, putting the authority of the Pharisees with Scofield mites over the authority of God and Jesus.

1.  The Millennium of Scofield is the kingdom of the Pharisees, not of the Bible.  In fact, Scofield was under contract with Oxford to be paid by restoring the kingdom of the Pharisees, not the kingdom of Jesus and the Bible.

And SCOFIELD note (SRB 1917, 1967) on Ro 11:26, last paragraph: “According to the prophets, Israel regathered from all nations, restored to her own land and converted, is yet to have her greatest earthly exaltation and glory.”

ANSWER: This is the millennium of the Pharisees, not of the Bible. It contradicts the plain prophecies of Jesus himself. Israel’s only hope is Ro 11. Paul says they were cast away because of unbelief but verse 23 says, “If they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again.” See Israel’s end as in Jer 23:39-40; 24:910; 29: l0-11 and Isa 65:1-15. Israel after the flesh is not an heir of God and never, ever will be. Israel is cast out. 1 Cor 15:50, “Flesh and blood cannot inherit.” Gal 4:21-30 says. “Shall not be heir with….”

2.  It is not that many faithful to Scriptures did not warn in the 1909-1920 and on of the heresies of Scofield, like Charles Gilbert Weston.  He not only wrote to expose Scofield notes but did better to write a study Bible to show true Scripture.

Weston Study Bible

The Weston Study Bible uses the King James Version and the original Greek and Hebrew as its authority. The author, Charles Gilbert Weston, saw this as a mandate from God, to prepare an annotation revealing truth that has been ignored, twisted, or falsified, so that the Church might return to its Apostolic foundations.

While teaching Bible School in the late 1920s, Weston was given a reference Bible and some other approved books on doctrine and prophecy to use in his teaching. But he had problems squaring what they taught with the Scriptures, so he began his annotations. He felt that by using Scripture to explain Scripture, and by using clear passages to explain those less clear, the truth would be revealed and error exposed. He worked for sixty-five years to produce this work.

Weston’s aim was to produce a study Bible which quickly disposes of higher criticism and other humanist teachings that have found their way into the notes of other popular Bibles, using a simple hermeneutic that shows Jesus Christ in His Church to be the complete answer to all prophecy, typology, and true theology. This is the theme. The Bible, and only the Bible, explains the Bible, and always in the context of Jesus Christ in us.

3.  Charles Weston wrote at Age 80:

As a very young Bible school teacher I obtained books on the Christian life, principles of interpretation, doctrine and prophecy that were duly approved in “Fundamentalist” circles. Also I was given a copy of the 1917 Scofield Reference Bible. I ran into problems of squaring what they taught with what I was learning as I studied and taught the Scriptures. Now I am past 80, having studied, ministered, and taught for 64 years around the world. Many others have helped and still help me. Please hear some Scriptures bearing on biblical interpretation that must be clarified.

4.  Prophetic of the split of the SBC under the disguise of the conservative resurgence, Pieters also wrote:  “When Albertus Pieters wrote about the Scofield Bible in 1938, he said it was one of the most dangerous books on the market.  Read carefully the description of the falsely called conservative resurgence written by the prime sponsor Adrian Rogers, and you see how they identified conservative as going back to the Fundamentalists papers of 1910 and Scofield of 1909 rather than back to “the faith once for all delivered to the saints.

5.  The audacity of Scofield and his followers of DTS and the SBC.  They have the audacity to give an alternative narrative to God and Jesus whereby immediately after the preaching of the gospel of the kingdom the kingdom of David should have been established.  (You see they strive to correct this so-called mistake by setting up a false kingdom called the millennium whereby the kingdom of David is re-established.

SCOFIELD note (SRB 1917, 1967) on Mt 4:17: “When Christ appeared to the Jewish people, the next thing, in the order of revelation as it then stood, should have been the setting up of the Davidic kingdom. In the knowledge of God, not yet disclosed, lay the rejection of the kingdom and the King, the long period of the mystery-form kingdom, the worldwide preaching of the cross and the out-calling of the church. But this was as yet locked up in the secret counsels of God.” Then he gives Mt 13:11,17 and Eph. 3:3-10.

ANSWER: The first statement — “When Christ first appeared to the Jewish people the next thing should have been the setting up of the kingdom,” is the error of the Pharisees, that Christ should appear as a mighty warrior conquering the world for Israel and setting up such a kingdom on earth. Scofield’s notes reveal this as his understanding of the kingdom. He declares that is what should have been according to the revelation to that point. Nothing could be further from the truth. That is absolute heresy. Israel, clinging to this false hope, lost everything in A.D. 70. Scofield falsely assumed that the Davidic Covenant prophesied an earthly enthronement of Christ upon the throne of David with Jews ruling overall.

6.  Scofield to DTS and Dr. Jeffress of the SBC.

A Southern Baptist minister, J. R. Graves, published a book, The Work of Christ Consummated in Seven Dispensations in 1883. It has a dispensational scheme quite similar to the one which Cyrus used later in the Scofield Reference Bible. Of course, both were similar to the writings and lectures of J. N. Darby of a few years earlier. This work of Graves was circulated in Scofield’s area. Judging from his later dispensationalism, Darby, Graves, Trotter and Kelly must have contributed a great deal.

In 1888, Scofield printed Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth to teach his classes the dispensational view. In 1856, a godly Scot named Patrick Fairbairn wrote a scripturally-based refutation of the whole dispensational business. Unfortunately, Scofield was not enlightened on the matter. The Dallas church agreed to lengthy vacation periods so Cyrus could minister wherever called, carry on the Home Missionary Society work and speak at conferences. They wanted to keep him as their pastor, so they willingly let others fill in for the five months of the year during his absence. These Bible conferences were to reshape a significant part of American Protestantism.

During this time, Scofield was the head of Southwestern School of the Bible in Dallas, the forerunner of the Dallas Theological Seminary. This school is now a major center for spreading Scofield’s views.

7.  Scofield followers are under a curse as they preach another gospel of a different kind from that of Jesus and Paul.

Many denominations have never accepted this prophecy teaching. Their members know nothing about the “Rapture of the church,” two Second Comings or “the millennium” — this “other gospel.” But the ones who do teach it are extremely vocal.

The Apostle Paul says, “Though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed” (Gal 1:8-9) Then in Acts 20:27, Paul said, “I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.” Paul’s teaching of the “whole counsel of God” did not include two separate comings, an earthly reign for a thousand years or a rebuilt temple with animal sacrifices. (See Heb 8, 9 and 10, especially vv. 12, 13, 14 of Ch. 10) “But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God; from henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering, he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified.”

It should not take a theologian to figure out that the church has been sold “another gospel” by teachers who support doctrines that Jesus warned against. Paul’s curse is upon it. If the Lord has declared the full truth and things that are to come in the Bible, then all teaching and doctrines that are different from this is heresy, everyone teaching it is a false prophet — though perhaps unknowingly. Then the postponed earthly kingdom also must be classed with false theories and speculations of men.

INTRODUCTION:  A Summary of the real book of Revelation and real total Bible to not fear tribulation.

  1.  Don’t let the Scofield Followers Scare you.

A Summary of the book of Revelation to not fear tribulation, lose your head unless you are a martyr, and recall how in Revelation 7:7—”After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth so that no wind could blow on earth or sea or against any tree. I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, having the seal of the living God, and he called with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to damage earth and sea, saying, ‘Do not damage the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have marked the servants of our God with a seal on their foreheads.’”

NOTE:  Scofield followers on eschatology enjoy scaring you, especially their evangelists, into you delaying the final tribulation for one thousand years, for fear of the final tribulation, which they also falsely make into the great tribulation which in reality happened during the first two hundred years after Jesus.  Do not listen unless you hear them start with what is consistent in the Bible from cover to cover, that is the DAY OF THE LORD AND Lord Jesus Christ.  You as a Believer are sealed by the angel of the living God in Revelation 6 where all the destruction starts, and then by the destructions of the bowls when it passes from a percentage of destruction to total destruction, this total is only on the unbelievers and wicked nations.

  1.  Keep your Revelation and Eschatology Bible in context of the total Bible.

The book of Revelation and Eschatology in general must be kept in the total context of the Bible. This part 1 of 8 studies begins with what Jesus taught in Matthew 24, also compares eschatology in the OT with the book of Revelation. Also these 8 parts of the book of Revelation are the first chapters of the Learn Christ Commentaries, volume 2, entitled “Christ for Individuals” and covers as a unity the five books of the Apostle John. NOTE of caution: Beware when any teacher gives you a list of last things events without Scriptural support and proof for each one. Make them like Scripture says, “Prove all things.” Even Dr. Jeffress has the habit on eschatology just passing out eschatological facts, in theory, without giving each fact one more Bible quote. And another check on what you read is historical consistency. like it is obvious that the Great Tribulation was that in the first two centuries that God shortened for persecuted Christians.  On the other hand the Final Tribulation of Revelation you notice is only on 1/4, 1/3 or so of the earth of physical destruction by God of the universe, not to be feared by those willing to accept the Bible on tribulation just before the Second Coming, including believers, as in Revelation an angel of God stops everything until a seal is placed on the head of all Believers. “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”  (I Thessalonians 5:21  KJV)

  1.  Sixth Seal: Cosmic Disturbances

“I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold,[e] there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood.  And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place.   And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, ‘Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”  (Revelation 6:12-17)

The most consistent in the Bible phrase of eschatology is the Day of the LORD in the OT and the day of the Lord Jesus Christ in the NT, the same day of course.  Those with weird interpretations of the book of Revelation and Eschatology stay away from using that term because they can not stand the consistency of the Bible, generally are the type that desire to isolate the book of Revelation from the rest of the 66 books with weirdness.  That great one day begins in Revelation 6:12-17 and continues in Revelation 7 and 8.  And another phrase is also the key in the total Bible, it is the diminished of light from the sun and moon.  Where is that in the book of Revelation?  In Revelation 11 with the sounding of the seventh trumpet, marking the end of all other kingdoms of this earth and all previous kingdoms are converted into the one forever kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ, and from then on, the total world government is on His shoulder.

  1.  Seventh Trumpet: The Kingdom Proclaimed is Realized.

“Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, ‘The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!’ And the twenty-four elders who sat before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God,  saying:  “We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, The One who is and who was and who is to come,  Because You have taken Your great power and reigned.  The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, And the time of the dead, that they should be judged, And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, And those who fear Your name, small and great, And should destroy those who destroy the earth.”  Then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant[h] was seen in His temple. And there were lightnings, noises, thundering, an earthquake, and great hail.”  (Revelation 11:15-19)

NOTE:  The red is obviously a quote from somewhere else in the Bible.

  •  Revelation 16 completing the wrath of God with the seven last plagues:

15 Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous: seven angels having the seven last plagues, for in them the wrath of God is complete.

In this final completion of the wrath of God, “day” is also mentioned, this time it is “that great day of God Almighty” in Revelation 16.

“For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.”  (Revelation 16:14)

these 7 bowls culminating in the seventh in which the whole earth is shaken are judgements on the unsaved

The resurrection of the souls that had been beheaded happened after one thousand years, not the souls who lost their head and bearing in a fictitious millennium.  The rest of the not beheaded believers did not live again until the binding of Satan was completed as the Holy Spirit was withdrawn from other–

  •  The Martyred Saints Reign with Christ 1,000 Years

“And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.  But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.   Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

Note that Jesus was careful to direct on earth that each of His apostles except Judas would die a martyrs death, so he could get them up to heaven the quickest and allow then to reign at Jerusalem, maybe over the whole kingdom as princes of government under Jesus.

  •  The Glory of the New Jerusalem

“But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. 24 And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it.  Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there).   And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it.  But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes  an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.  (Revelation 22:22-27)

VIII.  What does the Bible say about pandemic diseases/sicknesses?

Question: “What does the Bible say about pandemic diseases/sicknesses?”  {Thanks to Online GOT QUESTIONS at

Various outbreaks of pandemic diseases, such as Ebola or the coronavirus, have prompted many to ask why God allows—or even causes—pandemic diseases and whether such illnesses are a sign of the end times. The Bible, particularly the Old Testament, describes numerous occasions when God brought plagues and diseases on His people and on His enemies “to make you see my power” (Exodus 9:1416). He used plagues on Egypt to force Pharaoh to free the Israelites from bondage, while sparing His people from being affected by them (Exodus 12:1315:26), thus indicating His sovereign control over diseases and other afflictions.

God also warned His people of the consequences of disobedience, including plagues (Leviticus 26:2125). On two occasions, God destroyed 14,700 people and 24,000 people for various acts of disobedience (Numbers 16:49 and 25:9). After giving the Mosaic Law, God commanded the people to obey it or suffer many evils, including something that sounds like Ebola: “The Lord will strike you with wasting disease, with fever and inflammation . . . which will plague you until you perish” (Deuteronomy 28:22). These are just a few examples of many plagues and diseases God caused.

It’s sometimes hard to imagine our loving and merciful God displaying such wrath and anger toward His people. But God’s punishments always have the goal of repentance and restoration. In 2 Chronicles 7:13–14, God said to Solomon, “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” Here we see God using disaster to draw His people to Himself, to bring about repentance and the desire to come to Him as children to their heavenly Father.

In the New Testament, Jesus healed “every disease and every sickness,” as well as plagues in the areas He visited (Matthew 9:3510:1Mark 3:10). Just as God chose to use plagues and disease to show His power to the Israelites, Jesus healed as an exhibition of the same power to verify that He was truly the Son of God. He gave the same healing power to the disciples to verify their ministry (Luke 9:1). God still allows sickness for His own purposes, but sometimes disease, even worldwide pandemics, are simply the result of living in a fallen world. There is no way to determine whether or not a pandemic has a specific spiritual cause, but we do know that God has sovereign control over all things (Romans 11:36) and will work all things together for the good of those who know and love Him (Romans 8:28).

The spread of sicknesses such as Ebola and the coronavirus is a foretaste of pandemics that will be part of the end times. Jesus referred to future plagues associated with the last days (Luke 21:11). The two witnesses of Revelation 11 will have power “to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want” (Revelation 11:6). Seven angels will wield seven plagues in a series of final, severe judgments described in Revelation 16.

The appearance of pandemic diseases may or may not be tied to God’s specific judgment of sin. It could also simply be the result of living in a fallen world. Since no one knows the time of Jesus’ return, we must be careful about saying global pandemics are proof that we are living in the end times. For those who do not know Jesus Christ as Savior, disease should be a reminder that life on this earth is tenuous and can be lost at any moment. As bad as pandemics are, hell will be worse. The Christian, however, has the assurance of salvation and the hope of eternity because of the blood of Christ shed on the cross for us (Isaiah 53:52 Corinthians 5:21Hebrews 9:28).
