One of the biggest challenges of the Christian Life is the struggle to “Love Life” (I Peter 3:10-12) without falling into world love (I John 2:15-17). The dominance of the Gospel of World Love in the SBC hampers progress on this loving of life but goes over the cliff on World Love. It is impossible… Continue readingLove Life versus World Love
Gospel Pride over “Pride of Life” is for the Glory of God. Another fruit of the great apostasy called the falling away in the Bible is a massive substitution of pride of life and world love for the glory of God. Even as the Roman Vatican lost continuing with Christ about 1000 A.D. with “seducing… Continue readingGospel of World Love!
Gospel of Prosperity and Success (The Gospel of World Love) It is not only the Gospel of Prosperity we must abhor as unsound doctrine and avoid, it is the corollary of the Gospel of Wealth in the History of American Thought that is called the Gospel of wealth and the corollary of success. Of course,… Continue reading

You can take the doctrine of “the priesthood of
believers” as an example of what has happened
to sound teaching, or I should say the lack of
sound teaching and preaching, in the SBC
during the last 40 years ago. In 1960 when I did
a research paper at Ouachita Baptist College on
“Baptist Distinctives”, researching many
Baptist statements of faith and practice and
many books written up to that point on Baptist
Distinctives, “the priesthood of believers” was
very prominent in any statement of faith. Today
as I research the books being used in this
desperate effort to save SB churches for the
denominations, and especially the giving to
support the Boards, and which have been used
the last 40 years, YOU CAN NOT FIND THE
DOCTRINE OF THE PRIESTHOOD OF
BELIEVERS. Yes, I recently looked in BAPTIST
DISTINCTIVES by W. R. White, in THESE
THINGS WE BELIEVE by J. Clyde Turner, in
THE BAPTIST FAITH AND MESSAGE by
Herschel H. Hobbs, and in A GUIDE TO
BAPTIST BELIEF AND PRACTICE by Stanley J.
Grenz. It just is not there anymore; and along
with the disappearance from Baptist thought
and practice of these significant and major Bible
doctrine, definitely one of the historical Baptist beliefs.
You will want to read this good answer of “The Priesthood of Believers” from Got Questions at https://www.gotquestions.org/priesthood-believers.html, the conclusion of which is: “In summary, believers are called “kings and priests” and a “royal priesthood” as a reflection of their privileged status as heirs to the kingdom of the Almighty God and of the Lamb. Because of this privileged closeness with God, no other earthly mediator is necessary. Second, believers are called priests because salvation is not merely “fire insurance,” escape from hell. Rather, believers are called by God to serve Him by offering up spiritual sacrifices, i.e., being a people zealous for good works. As priests of the living God, we are all to give praise to the One who has given us the great gift of His Son’s sacrifice on our behalf, and in response, to share this wonderful grace with others.”
And one of the Scriptures quoted which must be shared here is:
Revelation 22:3–4 (ESV)
3 No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
There are some indications with the pandemic such as never seen in the world of the coronavirus that we are now in the final tribulation, and also from Revelation we are reminded that before the 7 angels were released to bring such tribulation on the world, an angel was instructed to seal such believers on their foreheads for protection. Seal on their foreheads is worthy of a separate study in the book of Revelation, but one such Scripture from Revelation 9:3-6, deep into tribulation reads:
Then from the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions of the earth.
They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any green plant or any tree, but only those people who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. They were allowed to torment them for five months, but not to kill them, and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it stings someone. And in those days people will seek death and will not find it. They will long to die, but death will flee from them.”
However, the Scripture that gives believers in Christ the comfort of sealed for protection with the seal of God on their foreheads is in Revelation 7:1-3 as quoted below:
“And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four
winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.
And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried
with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,
Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God
in their foreheads.
