Truth and Prophesy

third in the series of Bible Briefs on “Truth” and part of the “Bible Studies in Jeremiah” of

True Prophesy is Truth: False Prophesy is a Lie and False.

Everyone wants to claim a prophesy from God, or to say it another way everyone wants to be right and claim to be on the right side, the side of ultimate truth. And we are almost at the point of saying that TRUTH and PROPHESY are interchangeable words; that is true prophesy and true prophets correlate directly with the truth of God which is ultimate truth.

1. Moses on Truth, Prophesy, and the Prophet Messiah in Deuteronomy. (Deuteronomy 18:15-22)

(1). God will raise up from His people of Palestine, a Prophet Messiah much like Moses, that is designated by God to be listened to and heeded completely by the people as the ultimate source of the truth of God (18:15)

(2). The people of God at Mount Sinai requested more than they thought when they asked that God not speak to them directly. They could not take all that truth, righteousness, and holiness. They needed a mediator between them and God. God said “that is good”: they could die by directly listening to the voice of God Himself. (18:16,17)

(3). God Himself will raise up a Prophet from among the people of God: (a) God will put His own words of truth in the mouth of Jesus; and (b) Jesus will faithful and with high fidelity speak only all these words which God has commanded of truth. (18:18)

(4). God will hold each human responsible for the words of truth and of God that person hears from this Prophet Messiah, Jesus. Each hearer of this word will personally become accountable to God for what he has heard. (18:19)

(5). There will be other false prophets who: (a) who presume to speak a word of truth in the name of God who has not been sent or commanded by God to speak a word of truth in the name of God; or (b) speak in the name of other gods. (18:20) Sometimes it is hard to tell today whether many of these false prophets of prosperity are in the first category, just presumptuous and not called or sent by God, or in the second category of representatives of other gods of other philosophies of things.

(6). How can we decide which is a true and which is a false prophet, what is truth and what is not, God says in His word (18:21); and then gives the appropriate answer, it takes time and give it the test of time, whether the prophesy comes true or not. Alias, give it the test of time and history: does it really happen or fail to happen? (18:22)

2. Jesus as “the way, the truth, and the life”. (John 14:6)

I. Hideout for Bad Habits. Preface

“Many churches think they are hiding…” like you saw on the cover, hiding behind the American respect of the Bible teachings on church as “a house of prayer”; however Jesus reminded the religious people of His time that while a temple or church was meant by God to be a “house of prayer” and worship, among other thing as actual described in the Bible about the New Testament meaning of church, it had been turned into God’s own people as a “Den of Thieves”. Many churches think they are hiding, not from a single sin of the past but from weekly bad habits, in the church and out. They hide within the walls of the church where God can not see, they think, because He is inside, they think. What they are really hiding behind is the respect Americans have for religion and churches. History has changed the world we live in: with the advent of the last great apostasy, the Falling Away, the world in our churches and outside is no longer the same; and therefore the perceptions of the present, much different from earlier times, have to be adjusted to accommodate what God’s people in churches today are truly like. One of the major problems is that the follies or bad habits of church members, as listed on the cover from II Timothy 3:1-5, are no longer considered as sin. Things like “lack of self-control”, pride, and boasting are most generally considered as natural expressions of an aggressive (perhaps type A) and friendly personality; and those characteristics of character and personality deemed so important for success in the world are within the church expressions of a lack of self-discipline and self control. Also what church members today are hiding from is the reality of the difference of a single sin or a few sins committed in the past and bad habits that are repeated each week, in the church and outside. Quite often the self-righteous robe is put on which says that God will overlook while in the church a few sins of the past without the admission that those sins are really habitual, repeated week after week without repentance. After all, they are really “follies” or “bad habits”, not sins!

Today, like with the Southern Baptist group on Facebook, many claim that Scofieldism is rapidly disappearing and the so called conservative resurgence has taken its place. Not so, as evidenced by Lifeway’s promotion of the New Scofield Reference Bible with the image of Scofield, rather than Christ, on it; by the Scofield mites now running the SBC like Thom Ranier, the CEO of Lifeway and Greear the new President. Also there is the Dallas Theological Seminary influence, since Scofield himself and Chafer, they continue to be a hot bed of Scofield mites, presently with the graduates like Ryre, LeHaye, Jeffress, and on an on either popularizing gain Scofieldism or kicking out Study Bibles that emulate Scofield Notes.

They ignore the book of Romans on the chief advantage of being a Jew, that is to them were committed the oracles of God, we dare not ignore that, neither ignore that the all Israel that will be saved is the new Israel defined to Romans as mainly Gentiles and a few Jews. Of course, we need to support Israel as the only democratic nation in the Middle East, but not incorporate the follies of Scofield notes like separating the Christian church from the kingdom, like straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel to make a difference between the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of God, and mainly the tampering with the great commission and the single salvation plan of God and the Bible.

Anytime there are “doctrines of devils” in the nature of I Timothy apostasy, you expect with it seducing spirits, and of such you will not notice is with the pride and arrogance of the believers in a rapture and in a third coming of Christ. They both ignore all commentators before Scofield and Darby, and consider that they alone with a Scofield Reference Bible have a corner on truth. In short, you can detect the haughty seducing spirit quite often more than the unsound Bible doctrine.

What is the worst bad of Scofield mites besides they have the audacity to subvert with additions in notes of “the faith once for delivered to the saints”: (1) They teach like Jefress at FBC Dallas, that the great commission is not presently the obligation of the church, that converted Jews will in the millennium and the millennium age (we are in, they falsely say some “church age” now) will carry out the Great Commission: (2) They foster two plans of salvation, one for the Hebrew Zealots to rule during the millennium and another for Christians; and (3) they continue with the haughty seducing spirit attitude that only they have the literal inherent Bible, while fostering a theology and philosophy that adds to the Bible concepts and actual words not even found in the Bible Itself, like rapture, millennium, and dispensationalism. (You have to realize that the Scofield Reference Bible was the first Bible with a commentary, and the only commentary many knew.)
