It looks like the little book God gave John to read and share is His perspective on the history of the world, it included Mary and Jesus and the rescue from Egypt, it included the history of the Prophets and Apostles and Satan from the perspective of the heavenly Father. How fortunate we are to get a 11 chapter, a 50 % Little Book with insight into the mind and heart of God, and only because He allows us the peak at world history from the throne. A warning, it is in the language and thought patters of those in heaven, therefore sometimes hard to understand. However we are fortunate because near the beginning of the vision chapter, there is the explanation of the whole chapter from a voice or angel. In Revelation 21, about the new heavens and new earth, the explanatory voice is from God Himself, words from Him that sat upon the throne Himself.
5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
6 And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. 7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. 8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:5-8)
But it was not to be exclusively a message for John as the voice from heaven told him both to take and eat the book, and then told him he must prophesy again, this time to many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings. So we are comforted by the fact in the reading and understanding of the book of Revelation that God wants us to know. The little book was not written to b kept secret. Because John was told to eat it, the matter was that he could not fail to give the world the message of world history, because it was a part of him.
Revelation 10, the transitional chapter of the book of Revelation, is short, only 10 verses long. Transitional because it marks the beginning of the 11 chapter little book of Revelation, the transition between Revelation and Little Revelation if you please. Whereas almost all of the OT Prophets have a part in Revelation 1-10, especially on the One Day of the LORD, the prophet Ezekiel plays a big part in the transition of Revelation 10, providing a similar experience to the Apostle John, eating a book from God. Some people allow themselves to get mixed up, John was told not to write what the seven thunders uttered, so terrible are they that we might worry about them, terrible in nature as indicated as first of all the angel put one foot on the sea and another on the earth, before that a rainbow was on his head, his face like the sun, and feet as fire, then he cried with a defeaning loud voice like a roaring lyon and there were likewise 7 defeaning thurders. The little book was what John was to proclaim among the nations. And whenever Him of the throne spoke in Revelation 21, closing out the little book of 11-21, He said ““Write, for these words are true and faithful.” And so John did and we are benefited by having the little book of Revelation 11-21 to read world history from the perspective of God our Heavenly Father. Let there be no mistake, often people talk of what we do not need to know from Revelation, but God would intervene to say this words are written for the nations to know, this is true and faithful world history. Also, the message of the little book is consitently true and faithful with what God told His OT Prophets, the 4 major prophets and the 12 minor prophets, “the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.”
Did you get that, TIME SHALL BE NO MORE in the days of the voice of the Seventh Angel. God wants us to know when the END is, if you are able to handle it, it is during the days of the voice of the Seventh Angel, I jest, for there is no way to know when it is going to happen until we hear it happening. We need to be careful perdicting the time of the END, although we are given sufficient evidence in Revelation 9 to know that it is approximately 3 years. Of course that is the period of initial tribulation and the time Satan is allowed to harass the people on earth, then for a period of ONE day, that we do not know is a literal one day or a period of one day time, say one year. In the OT the Hebrew word translated day, “yom” is really a period of time.
And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:
And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth,
And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices.
And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.
And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,
And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:
But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.
And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.
And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.
And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.
And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.
You talk about a short chapter, such is Ezekiel 2, about the scroll Ezekiel was told to eat:
2 And He said to me, “Son of man, stand on your feet, and I will speak to you.” 2 Then the Spirit entered me when He spoke to me, and set me on my feet; and I heard Him who spoke to me. 3 And He said to me: “Son of man, I am sending you to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me; they and their fathers have transgressed against Me to this very day. 4 For they are [a]impudent and stubborn children. I am sending you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’ 5 As for them, whether they hear or whether they refuse—for they are a rebellious house—yet they will know that a prophet has been among them.
6 “And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them nor be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you and you dwell among scorpions; do not be afraid of their words or dismayed by their looks, though they are a rebellious house. 7 You shall speak My words to them, whether they hear or whether they refuse, for they are rebellious. 8 But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. Do not be rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and eat what I give you.”
9 Now when I looked, there was a hand stretched out to me; and behold, a scroll of a book was in it. 10 Then He spread it before me; and there was writing on the inside and on the outside, and written on it were lamentations and mourning and woe.
God says, whether they listen or not, that is Israel, they will know that there has been a Prophet of God among them!
3 Moreover He said to me, “Son of man, eat what you find; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.” 2 So I opened my mouth, and He caused me to eat that scroll.
3 And He said to me, “Son of man, feed your belly, and fill your stomach with this scroll that I give you.” So I ate, and it was in my mouth like honey in sweetness.
4 Then He said to me: “Son of man, go to the house of Israel and speak with My words to them. 5 For you are not sent to a people of unfamiliar speech and of hard language, but to the house of Israel, 6 not to many people of unfamiliar speech and of hard language, whose words you cannot understand. Surely, had I sent you to them, they would have listened to you. 7 But the house of Israel will not listen to you, because they will not listen to Me; for all the house of Israel are [a]impudent and hard-hearted. 8 Behold, I have made your face strong against their faces, and your forehead strong against their foreheads. 9 Like adamant stone, harder than flint, I have made your forehead; do not be afraid of them, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.”
10 Moreover He said to me: “Son of man, receive into your heart all My words that I speak to you, and hear with your ears. 11 And go, get to the captives, to the children of your people, and speak to them and tell them, ‘Thus says the Lord God,’ whether they hear, or whether they refuse.”
12 Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me a great thunderous voice: “Blessed is the glory of the Lord from His place!” 13 I also heard the noise of the wings of the living creatures that touched one another, and the noise of the wheels beside them, and a great thunderous noise. 14 So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the [b]heat of my spirit; but the hand of the Lord was strong upon me. 15 Then I came to the captives at Tel Abib, who dwelt by the River Chebar; and I sat where they sat, and remained there astonished among them seven days.
You find here in this OT Prophet even preparation for the language of Revelation 10:
1. Behind Ezekiel was a great thunderous voice giving the glory and the blessedness to the LORD.
2. There were other noises, the wings of the living creatures and the noise of wheels and a large thunderous noise.
