WORLD TO COME: More on New Earth than in Heaven

We will spend a lot more time on the “World to Come” of the New Earth than in heaven.
If life on this earth is a boot camp for heaven, and it is, then heaven in turn is orientation for the new earth, and it is. We get a big boost in perfection, at least of the soul, as we see Jesus and “become like Him, for we shall see Him as He is”. Then on the new earth the perfection process is completed, that is part of the doctrine of Christ in Hebrews, as we are clearly instructed that those left on earth will be perfected with those Christ brings with Him from heaven. They in heaven, so to speak, are not going to get ahead of us on holiness and righteousness, for both at the new earth of the Second Coming, we all shall be perfected together. {Amen!}
As one author wrote:
“‘Pure River of Water of life.’ In one final glimpse into the future, John sees this river flowing from the throne of God. It is the source of eternal life that emanates from God. Even in heaven, we will drink water and eat food, probably not out of necessity for our health, but because of the pleasure and fellowship it will give us. This is symbolic of eternal life.”

Now, a little spiritual imagination and reality awareness of new earth and new Jerusalem realities. Try to see us sitting in the soft grass next to the River of Life, nibbling on the fruit and leaves of the tree of life, and listening to the New Jerusalem concert with the greater than Gaither like music and the greater than Boston Pops bands, much like many of us remember as walking through the cherry blossoms to the Lincoln Memorial, and sitting on the grace in the cool of the evening as the planes fly overhead and as a large band plays from a barge on the river. The former describes some of the best of life, the latter on the river and grass in New Jerusalem describes some of the best in the new life of the New Jerusalem.
It will the beauty of the Garden of Eden, only more so–
“Out of the ground the LORD God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden” (2:9).
– Genesis 2:1–16; 3:22–24

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever” (Revelation 22:1–5).
